Mud is a little bit like rain. We’re told from a very early
age that we’re not meant to frolic in it. If we do then horrible things will
happen. These ‘horrible’ things are very rarely explained but we’re always
assured that they’re ‘horrible’. I believe that a little part of maturity is
realising when those simple laws that we’re told to abide by aren’t really
applicable.
I think I learnt that Mud isn’t always the enemy. Today I
ditched my place in the pancake line to body slide along a particularly muddy
piece of grass. I feel that I must explain that today has been especially
muggy. It’s been raining and warm. So basically that meant that we ended up
with a really good water side. There was a layer of water on top of the grass
and the temperature meant that it felt a little bit like summer.
I’d been watching the boys from Miro slide (with an
impressive amount of speed) along the section of grass and all the meanwhile I
thought to myself ‘man that looks like fun’. Then (partially because I wanted
to have something to write about on this blog) I decided to join in, despite
the fact that I didn’t know them and that I was a girl. Sometimes I find myself
almost tearing my hair out due to the wimpiness of some girls. So many things
have been deemed ‘inappropriate’ for girls. I don’t know if it’s just because
girls don’t have the guts to make a fool of themselves or because they’re
scared of being stared at or because of another reason entirely. It’s always
the boys doing the crazy things. The girls in the queue around me all said
things like ‘man that looks fun,’ and ‘I wish I could give it a go.’ But none
of them joined in. I was the only one.
Then after I gave it a go it kind of gave everyone else the
courage to give it a go. I think that Anna, Kate and Caitlin all enjoyed
getting a little bit dirty. Mud isn’t something to be feared, oh and while I’m
at it neither are insects or loud weather. Girls tend to be rather pathetic
sometimes. I think it’s partially because one gets a little bit scared and then
all of the others kind of play off of that vibe and amp up a little fright into
a fully fledged panic attack. Perhaps it all goes back to the old damsel in
distress days. Those sissy girls are waiting for a big strong boy to show that
he has a ‘Y’ chromosome and can protect them.
I roll my eyes at that and I also want to plea to all
followers of this blog to man up! If you wanna do something then just do it
dammit!
Oh and sliding in mud was wonderfully fun even though Anna
got an insect in her bra...
3 Good Things
*Getting double pancakes for being the first girl to try
sliding in the mud... Oh and by extension the weird looks that I got sitting
down to eat my pancakes in the centre;
entirely soaked, barefoot, covered in mud with a little bit of chocolate
sauce on my arm. And the response of ‘what was that about?’ When I gleefully
told the Miro boys (while they were waiting for pancakes) that I got two... The
expression... Oh Camilla!
*Body Balance and Body Attack with Anna. I’m rather enjoying
these gym combos.
*Fox has a new shoe! Yippee!
After Dinner Mint: I recently read in the newspaper a rather
cynical article about a study about optimism. They were saying that some people
were stubbornly and unrealistically optimistic. Well I have to say two things
to the researcher! One, your experiment is probably flawed and two, sometimes
people need a little bit of hope. Life can’t just be all doom and gloom
otherwise it gets a little bit harder to live. I’m stubbornly optimistic. I
like to believe that every problem in my life will work itself out if I give it
time. That’s not to say that I don’t try to fix them. It’s just that I don’t
spend every moment freaking out over them. After all ‘all’s well that ends
well.’ I think that’s the quote... Oh well ANYWAY.....
Oh and cause this post is a little bit about how insane I am
then I must direct your attention to the Alice in Wonderland Quote over thereà
