Squish Squash

Anyone want to hazard a guess at what I did today? Well of course no one can hazard a guess since this is a very one way blog so I'm pretty much talking to myself. I exercised today. That's not an unusual occurrence despite what Phoebe may say. The difference is that today I mixed it up a little bit by playing one of my favorite sports. SQUASH. I don't get to play it too often because everyone seems always be either too lazy or too nerdy to play squash. (I'm not saying that if you're nerdy then you can't play squash. The reason they can't play is because they're busy with studying (even though that's what I do most of the time except of course for when I'm playing squash or lying in grass)).

Why do I like playing squash? That seems like a logical place to start. It's good anger release. Do you ever just feel furious and your nails start to dig into your hands then before you know it your hands hurt? That's not healthy. Its far healthier to let out the anger through physical aggression. Punching your pillow is frustrating because it just kind of deflates so you never really make any progress. Punching anything else could have you end up in the emergency room. So let out that physical aggression by playing squash. Imagine that the ball is the person who you are really mad at or play with someone who you are really mad at (the only problem there is that if you're mad at them then they're likely to be mad at you (its the mad cycle) and if they're mad at you then it is unlikely that they are going to want to fraternise with you when they don't have to. And besides that it could turn rather dangerous if you happened to get into a tiff. So really stick to the imagining). Then you can physically let out your frustrations with that person by smashing the ball into the wall. Or if you're not mad at anyone in particular imagine the ball is NCEA. Everyone's angry with NCEA. It's very satisfying hearing that ping as you smash the raquet into the ball and then watching it zoom back towards you. Of course it loses some of its satisfaction if you get hit by the ball that you hit. Which is why you need to be agile...

Secondly it's exercise and it's fun exercise. So as you're smashing around this tiny insignificant ball your heart is beating merrily and those potential love handles from your breakfast of waffles with chocolate sauce and caramel and marshmallows stay just that...potential. Plus it means that you can be as lazy as you want for the rest of the day without feeling guilty. It's magnificent. Oh and how can I forget apart from exercise being great for the physical health its also great for the mental health as Elle Woods rightly put it 'Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don't shoot their husbands, they just don't.' I think that if you didn't like that movie then you must have been allergic to happy endings or blondes.

A thing that I've started to do recently is exercise and socialise. It's very handy it means that you can sort of kill 2 birds with one stone. Except I don't think socialising is really a chore. But anyway... Although the one downside is it is a bit tough to talk when you're both about to die after running through Otari bush or talk whilst swimming or talk when you're smashing a squash ball against a wall (it's rather noisy). Of course I must admit it's hard to not socialise and still play squash although it would be even harder and sadder to play tennis by yourself....

Tomorrow is a kind of crazy day. We as in year 12 are voting for our student leaders for next year. A little bit scary. It's not the actual voting that's scary I'm not scared of ticking 8 boxes. The scary thing is what it represents. It represents me being a year 13 (the penultimate year of childhood) after that you're thrust out into the city of your choice to fend for yourself. Finally I must say I'm feeling a little sentimental about the year 13's leaving. Although that's only because it means that there will no longer be year 13's and there will only be year 12's who have to become year 13's. It's whack.

I've been trying for a sign off for ages that's as cool as gossip girl xoxo. Well I'm never going to be cool so flag that instead I'll end with 'Hey anything intrigue you? Then comment note I used the imperative so now you have to. Tricksy I know.'

  1. Camilla! Commenting as ordered;) Great blog! You're a very entertaining and amusing writer/blogger. Especially liking the reasons for playing squash. You almost tempted me to play it, and I am a squash-o-phobe.
