At the start of this year I made a list. It was a list of New Years Resolutions. Normally people have about one or two. I started the year with about 12. On this list there were the usual things, NCEA level 2 endorsed with Excellence, restricted drivers license....The usual. Then I had some not so usual things. There was try a new thing every day. It lasted about a month then after I'd jumped in the swimming pool fully clothed I realised that in fact there weren't too many new things to do. So there was no chance of me making it to the end of the year. That resolution died at that point. I also had a resolution to make a pavlova. I made it. It was oh so incredibly good and really easy. Then finally I had a strange one to try Salsa dancing.
What is with the fascination I seem to have with Salsa? Something about the poofy dresses and Latin American flair just makes me go a little bit woozy like after I have a breakfast cookie (yesterday I made up a new kind of cookie. It's marvellously fantastic. I made peanut butter cookies with cornflakes inside. Then I stuck 2 together with jam. Sound kind of sick. Well it isn't unless your Michaela Aspell but she thinks that everything that I touch is sick so....You can't please everyone. Oh and it also has low fat cream cheese. It's a sickeningly delicious cookie. I love it. Perhaps I shall be a baker!).
Back to salsa. It's just so stylie. I want you now to imagine how cool it would look if while everyone else around you at a dance/night club was raving or heaven forbid the Welesley Shuffle (Essentially hands on shoulders stepping side to side it's the biggest crack up ever) you suddenly break out into Salsa. Currently it's my dream to find a guy at Ceroc (Rock and Roll dancing) to come to the ball with me. It would be so cool to just carve up the dance floor like that.
Today I tried Salsa for the first time. Lucky for me I was shorter than my partner which meant that I got to be the woman. This also means that later in life I wont have issues when it comes to other forms of partnered dance. You see people who are forced to be men at an all girls school will have serious issues with following the mans lead. Anyway...so I was the follower. It was so much fun although I felt like a tard jiggling my hips from side to side while struggling to coordinate my arms plus I got confused as to which way was left and which was right. Apart from that it was historic (It's my new word sort of like legendary but more original). I am so pumped for next week when I next have rec pe and I have the next SalSA class. So exciting.
But ceroc is so much cooler than salsa as it's a more flexible dance style ... more useful for town.
