Christmas

I came to a very important realisation on Christmas Eve this year. I really don't care about the presents. Or the food. Or even the weather. I just enjoyed laughing like a crazy person and spending time with my family. The annoying this is that 'Glee' presented an extremely cliched Christmas episode which reached the same conclusion. I do therefore feel that it is necessary for me to proclaim that I did not steal anything from 'Glee'. I dislike 'Glee' intensely by the way. Although I think that's a post for another day.

Back to Christmas. It didn't really feel like Christmas. We didn't buy a Christmas tree and I didn't spend an eternity agonising over Christmas presents. There weren't any Christmas carols on the radio and I only had about three Christmas mince pies. It just really wasn't all that amped up this year. I think I liked that low keyness though. It meant I wasn't disappointed. It was what it was. A wonderful day to spend with family.

I feel that as time goes on the Christmas necessities keep on changing. The New Zealand population seems to be moving from being Christian to being Agnostic. Nowadays we rarely see nativity scenes because the population doesn't really see Christmas as a religious holiday. Instead it's become a day when there's no ads on the radio and TV and when we can enjoy each other's company. Enjoying each others company. That's the important part because honestly we can do that everyday. But I guess Christmas is one day that we can set aside. It's got special meaning. We can have it as the one day out of the year when we're not allowed to go onto Facebook or check our emails or do any kind of work. Instead we devote our time to the people we love the most. We really should do that every day shouldn't we though? I think what I'm getting at is that an average person must spend an hour or so of their time every day procrastinating via facebook or watching TV. Imagine if instead of having that screen time you called your Mother or Grandparent. It would make their life a whole lot better and probably yours too.

Message of this post. Gifts really don't matter a whole lot. At the end of the day you can go out and buy yourself a crock pot. The important thing is that the gift giving involves showing your family that you love them and bonding with them. I love the exchange of Christmas gifts. Not for what's in the package but for the hilarious jokes that everyone makes.

I think my relaxed christmas may be a sign of me growing up.

PS sorry for the ramble... I'm sleepy...
