I've been into Wellington for two days consecutively. There's one significant difference between Wellington and Palmy. Of course that's ignoring the obvious; like the fact that Wellington has the beehive and buildings which are more than two storeys high. I'm talking about the incessant jaywalking. I feel like I've posted about this before so I feel like I need to keep it relatively brief but nevertheless I'll tell you a little bit about it.
It almost makes me laugh. You see the jaywalkers always frantically run from one side of the road to the other with legs going everywhere and if they're women then they're frantically clutching their bag under their arm. For some reason that little red man sends them into a fit of panic. Automatically because he's there then they've got to pay attention. It's strange because in reality if the little green man was flashing then they'd feel perfectly a okay about texting on their blackberry as they stroll across the road. Just because they've been alerted to something then automatically they kind of over exaggerate. You know what I mean. It's like when you're learning how to play the piano or for me it was always in my horse riding lessons. As soon as someone told me one thing then I exaggerated it. If I was told that my arms were too straight then I'd bend my hands up to my shoulders or if I was told that I was talking too loudly then I'd start whispering. Maybe it's just me but when it comes to other people's critique then I always overexaggerate. Then again that may be a good thing. If you do too much then maybe just the right amount will stick.
Back to jaywalking. Whenever I do the frantic dash then I immediately feel WAY more important. I feel like I have to be somewhere and people driving cars can't stand in my way. I MUST go. Maybe that's just because I was in Wellington at the same time as lots of corporates today.
