New City = New You. That's the big drive for everyone to move. Often they're trying to get away from someone or something so that they can start over again. Maybe you crashed your mothers car into a power pylon or maybe your dress broke leaving you naked in front of your entire school. Understandably we don't really want to relive these often painful memories in our day to day life. It wouldn't be pleasant to be called 'the flasher' at school. Day in and day out you'd remember that single moment. Children can be cruel sometimes and it's hard to live things down. So wouldn't it be better to just leave everyone who witnessed your darkest moment and instead start again with new people and a new identity?

I'm a strong believer that everyone deserves a second chance. That's why they have identity suppression in court. It means that you're single act of stupidity or moment of unluckiness won't follow you around for the rest of your life. You can start again. No one will know about that dark moment. There's one problem with that theory. You still know. Unless you're going to take that memory suppression drug then you'll always know. As much as we dislike to admit it then it's the events in our life which determine the kind of person that we become. It's far more nurture than nature. That single moment has changed your path whether you want to admit it or not.
I'm also a strong believer in the cliche that everyone should be themselves. You can't ignore the person that you are inside. No one is as good an actress as that. You can change your hair colour, your drinking habits but ultimately you can't change yourself. If you're acting when your meeting new people then you're stuck. You'll always have to pretend that you love punk music or that you've smoked weed a thousand times. As much as you mightn't like to admit it then they'll find out in the end or they'll always have a doubt in the back of their head of your true identity. If you never let someone discover the true you then how can you expect them to truly love you? That's what it comes down to at the end of the day if no one knows you then as much as you may want to refute it then you know no one. You may know the little things about them but you have no idea about the juicy details. If you're not about to give anything then how can you expect them to give.
Eventually the game will be up. It'll be a nasty night when you've drunken far too much, your mascara is running and you can't remember where you put your key. You just need someone, anyone. No one will come because they'll think that this 'naked' person isn't you. It's a stranger. I suppose you could try and move again, maybe you'll maintain the cover for a little bit longer this time. But the truth will come out eventually. No one is that good at suppressing their emotions.
I mean look at Sarah... She couldn't deny that she was in love with Chuck in the end.
