Cousins - Vampire Weekend

As y'all know one of my new years resolutions is to take a photo a day. Of course I've aptly named it project 365... I'll show you the photos which I took on the 2nd and the 3rd when I actually have access to technology which will allow me to upload the photos... na da... My recent foray into photography has taught me a simple thing. I'll try and stay clear of cliches for this entire blog post. Here we go. I learnt that sometimes we can see one thing which in reality is something completely different. While my eyes are caught up in the terrible brightness associated with summer then my camera captures the true image. It means that at first when I take the photo I think to myself 'meh average let's just take lots of snaps'. Then afterwards when I zoom in a little bit, change the contrast and focus the lens an awesome picture becomes apparent. Having said that I really do wish that I was rich enough to buy one of those intensely epic massive black cameras. They just seem to make everything look awesome. The one problem which I had with my sony cybershot was it tends to get confused. I was lying on the grass taking snaps of buzzy bees. Instead of focusing on the bees pollinating the flowers my camera would focus on the random strands of grass around the bee. I guess that just shows that sometimes it's best to trust your eyes and other times you should probably consider using a piece of technology instead.

It reminds me a lot of this TV show I was watching a little while ago. It was called something like 'Talking with Murderers'. Anyway they visited places of significance for a different serial killer each week. It all got thoroughly terrifying. One technique that they used was that they took photos. In the photos they'd see these light patches which were called orbs and were meant to be a 'spiritual presence'. Scary no? For some reason our eyes couldn't pick up the ghosts only the cameras could. I find it unique that we've become so dependent on technology yet we don't need it. It just gives us a different perspective on our lives by allowing us to see a little bit more. I must admit it's all because of our innate sense of curiosity. Other mammals live their lives and adapt to their limitations ie a catfish wouldn't try and live on land. Whereas we see our limitations and then set about trying to extend them. Instead of spending vital energy finding food we use it to produce cameras so our sight improves. If we can capture a moment then we can zoom in on the entire image and see everything that happened in that moment in perfect clarity. It's pretty amazing yet unnecessary. We evolved to survive with our limitations so really anything beyond that is unnecessary. I have to admit that it appears that the human evolution paper has stuck with me more than I'd like.

The point of this blog post? Try taking photos. They may look terrible in the view finder but then on closer examination you may discover that in reality they are magical. A little cliched I know but I'm tired.

3 Good Things
*I ran 8k. I well and truly hit the mental block at 4k. It's the hardest part of running. Your body can run the distance but in many ways the mental stamina is the most important part. You have to keep on pushing and more importantly delete the option of walking.
*Hamish & Andy Podcasts! They are absolutely hilarious. I know it's been a good thing before but I absolutely love them! This morning my mother got intensely infuriated with me because I kept on listening to the podcast instead of getting dressed. Well I maintain that I was multitasking. Although it is hard putting on a sports bra with head phones in your ears.
*Cherries... Yummy. Finally they were a suitable price. I love the roadside fruit vendors in the wairarapa. We stopped today on the way back from my lesson to buy some ice cream and fruit. Whilst I was waiting (a very long time which is characterized by the fact that my mother came into the store twice and on the second time declared that we were going to have to leave the ice creams and get a refund... Embarrassing but luckily I managed to talk her down!) I realised that I was experiencing the negative effects of diminishing returns. As the fruit place was producing more ice cream then the customers found themselves more and more fed up. They would therefore want to pay less for each additional ice cream as they were having to wait for an even longer period of time. This increased wait was due to the fixed factors in the short run aka the single ice cream machine. Some consumers weren't bothering to buy ice creams because of the wait which shows the lost revenue. Therefore for the ice cream place to maximise revenue it should consider investing in another ice cream machine. I hope that economics makes sense.

After Dinner Mint: There's nothing more infuriating than having cousins who make you feel like you're entirely insignificant. Siblings are different. As they spend so much time with you then they know exactly what makes you tick and what makes you happy. Whereas cousins.. They're like siblings but more distant as you only see them every once in a while. Because of this they quite simply don't understand you. They're meant to be like you as they share a few genes here and there but they're not. They inhabit an entirely different niche and so they can't possibly understand anything about you yet they think that they do understand what it is that you're on about purely because of those few shared genes. It's the paradox of family (I think that's the right context) we expect all of our family members to be essentially bosom buddies and therefore treat them that way. I hope that made sense! Rambling I know... anyway...

NERD PRIDE!

Just realised something... The ultimate law which we must all live by is to never think that you are above someone. There is nothing worse than being looked down upon.
