Today I realised what a student I've become. A key characteristic of a student is being ridiculously cheap; stealing salt and pepper from the dining hall instead of buying it, using the other side of discarded printed pieces of paper from the library for your own printing and walking marathons to save a few dollars. Today I hit a new level of cheapness. It all started when my father came up to visit me. He had half an hour free. I needed groceries. That meant that despite his manic driving (80kph in 3rd gear is so not okay! The poor nissan was huffing and puffing in pain!) I was only left with 15 minutes to do my shopping. I felt like I was taking part in one of those 5 minute grab competitions. You know the kind. They let the winner lose in a store and give them two minutes to grab as much stuff as they can. Everything that they can grab they get to keep. I've always wanted to do one of those and today I kind of got my chance since Daddy paid. I sprinted into pack n save. I didn't bother getting a basket because I couldn't find one so I started grabbing item after item. Running between locations. It was exhausting. I got the strangest looks from shoppers predominately because every item was perilously close to falling on the ground.
Nevertheless I made it around with reasonably non squished bread. I dumped my groceries, bought them and then we were out of there. I really felt like a winner.
My cheapness didn't end there though. Oh no no. Of course I went out for lunch. I had soup, buffet lunch, a latte, a slice. Everything that I could fit on my tray. More than my father and probably more than an african village would eat in a month. I ate so much that I was full until dinner. Now that's a lot of food! I figure it'll save me money somewhere down the line even if it's because I force my body to get through some of my fat reserves.
3 Good Things
*An amazing cliffhangery episode of Chuck. Wow. It was amazing. The ending. The cliffhanger. The Charah moments. And most importantly the fact that it kind of relates to English... SPOILER ALERT You see the episode showed how much Chuck relies on Sarah. The question now is can Chuck rise to the occasion and be the man that Sarah needs him to be? He's tried to prove his worth without her before in Chuck versus the Fear of Death. That didn't turn out particularly well although he didn't have the intersect. Now it's all out on the table and the question is has Chuck grown enough since then to stand up and be the man that Sarah needs him to be? It really creates a wonderful season finale. Dear God. Please let it only be a season finale. I can't bear life without regular new episodes of Chuck. I mean what will I reference in this blog? How I met your mother? Nowhere near nerdy enough... Please let NBC renew Chuck! Even for half a season just give us a little bit more time! Amen!
*A visit from my Dad which included Ma Higgins cookies!
*A kind, kind girl helping my group through my Chemistry lab when it seemed like everything was going wrong. Thank you! Let karma be kind to you!
AFTER DINNER MINT: Where is my strong female role model? I need one. It proves that there isn't a glass ceiling. There has to be one single successful woman. I know there's Oprah but that's different. There has to be a business person.
Hmm, in terms of a female business role model, you could go with Martha Stewart and try to forget the whole jail thing. Plus, Oprah is actually a very successful business woman. She managed to create a multi-million dollar fortune from not a lot, and now has a magazine and a television network amongst other things under her name.
ReplyDeleteOr you could see if any of these people are role model worthy :) http://www.svtuition.org/2011/04/successful-women-entrepreneurs-in-world.html
If all else fails, I believe Lady Gaga is always an awesome role model.
