Today I went to the rugby. I'm not a big sports follower. I only watch the first half of the news so I conveniently miss all of the sporting updates. It always unfortunately means that when people are talking about the latest rugby happenings I end up saying something like 'well Tana Umanga's awesome'. That's because when Tana Umanga was captain of the All Blacks then I was an avid All Black supporter. I even made a scrap book of the Lions tour... It was meant to rival my friends 9/11 scrap book... Hmm terrorist attack that caused a rapid accumulation of arguably the stupidest mistakes a president could make vs NZ smashing the Lions... Really those two events are on equal footing.... Point of this little tangent is to tell you how disinterested I usually am when it comes to rugby.
Then my brother woke me up early this morning and said that he had an extra ticket to the Hurricanes game. He told me that the Hurricanes were currently placed tenth and the reds first so I shouldn't expect much. Never one to pass up an opportunity I still eagerly accepted. I've never been to a rugby game before. I don't quite know what I was expecting but when the Reds scored in the first one and a half minutes I found myself sinking into my seat and wishing that the free Hurricanes flag I was holding was a Reds one instead... Yeah I'm not the most loyal supporter... Then something amazing happened. The Canes started to claw their way back. They scored a try. Then another try. By this time I was engrossed in the game. My cell phone was firmly zipped inside my pocket and wasn't about to go anywhere. By the end of the game I was booing with the rest of the fans, clapping eagerly when the canes made a break for it and shouting 'take it out wide' as if the Canes could hear my advice from the stands. .. It was a nail biter and my goodness it was great to be there. I like to think that my mere presence somehow changed the games result...
There's just something about being there live. You're surrounded by passionate fans and you're in the same presence as the players. You can empathise with the players since you know what the atmosphere is like. I guess the atmosphere is the thing about being somewhere live. I'm eagerly anticipating this Saturday. It's the Katy Perry concert. It feels like years ago when Phoebe and I sneakily logged onto the ticket master website to score our tickets. It was all planned so quickly. It would give me my much needed break from Palmerston North as well as a much needed catch up session with Phoebe. Funny how the concert's one week after the holidays are over... Nevertheless I'm ridiculously excited. I can't wait to be belting out the lyrics with thousands of other passionate fans. Although I must admit I think the coolest thing about Katy Perry's concert will be the candy floss smell.... Mmm
I've been told a million times that there's nothing better than the live experience and I fully believe that from the youtube videos of gigs that I've seen. That's why I'm adding something to my bucket list.
* See my favourite bands live.
Who classify as my favourite bands? I think there are two or so (the or so is because I can't quite narrow down my favourite bands to pick a third at the moment...) who I would kill to see in concert. Snow Patrol and Coldplay. Love their music so much! So I've initiated a plan so I can see them in concert. I have to admit that unfortunately they're never going to come to New Zealand. Ergo I shall have to buy a one way ticket overseas and become a groupie... Or I could just move to London.. All the best bands come to London. Although that's a bit stereotypical... I'm going to go for Dublin instead since awesome bands go there as well AND there's the incredibly sexy Irish accent AND Snow Patrol, U2, Frightened Rabbit and Admiral Fallow are all Irish bands... So I shall be more unique and live in Dublin! Signed, sealed, another place I wanna live!
Oh and Vampire Weekend because who doesn't love the band members dancing/jumping up and down in time...
3 Good Things
*The Canes! Can't believe they won! I can now pretend that I'm a really avid supporter... not at all a bandwagon-jumper...
*Indie fashion! It's ever so comfy and I think it looks awesome so screw you if you say that indie is when people put an outfit together and you're not sure if it's nice or ugly! Indie's about following through with what you think rather than what everyone else thinks. Yeah I'm growing some serious lady balls!
*Having a delicious lunch with my sister and her boyf! She really is a domestic goddess! Although that's also on par with the awesome parallel park that I did today! I actually did one which is an accomplishment in itself considering my massive amount of failures/accidents when it comes to parallel parking. But it was also just perfect. It was on a hill which made it more technical in a manual but I parked perfectly close to the curb, I had good distance in front of me and most impressively I managed to have the wheels turned so if the car were to get knocked it wouldn't just roll straight down the hill. Now that's what I call good driving!
